EATING OUT



You can't go wrong eating out in Sicily. Most places do dishes on a level of home made cooking
that you cannot beat. All of the produce is fresh and on this sun drenched island the flavours of
the food exude. Just think of luscious ripe red Sicilian tomatoes and sun burst yellow lemons
to get an idea of how well you are going to eat. Always try the local dishes. On this island, it
would be hard to go wrong with seafood but everything's good. The local pizza topped with
fresh local produce are hard to beat and the word's genetically modified are not top of the list.

Charleston, Piazza Ungheria 30. Closed Sun. This is the place to go when you want to splash
out as it is rather expensive. The cuisine is excellent with dishes other than its Sicilian
specialities. You may need to reserve.

Trattoria-Pizzeria Enzo, Via Maurolico 17/19. Closed Fri. This is the best option for bargain
meals at an inexpensive price.

Pizzeria Italia, Via Orologio 54. Closed lunchtime and Mon. This is the best place for pizzas in
the city but prepare to wait as there are always queues but at this price it is worth the wait.

Primavera, Piazza Bologni 4. Closed Mon. It is a wonderful trattoria with good home cooking at
moderate prices. It is close to the cathedral and boasts outdoor seating.

Santandrea , Piazza Sant'Andrea. Another expensive but chic restaurant in the Vucciria market
area. You need to listen to the waiter as there are no menus and the dishes change according
to season but the food is delicious. Reservations a must.

Stella, Via Alloro 104. Closed Sun & Mon lunch in summer, Sun lunch & Mon in winter. Seafood
dishes are the order of the day, do go for seafood pasta and grilled fish. The prices are
moderate and book if you want to eat in the charming courtyard.

For the main city in Sicily, Palermo is strangley void of night life. In fact the whole city seems
to stop functioning around dinner time. Really the only thing to do is go a walk around Piazza
Castelnuovo. Most people looking for some after hours diversion head to Mondello. For an early
evening aperitivo here are a list of possibles.

Bottiglieria del Mássimo, Via Spinuzza 59,. This is a wine bar with places to sit outside.

Piazza Oilvella is full of late opening places that you can frequent when you have finished your
archeological exploits in the museum in front.
